Brassica formed its scientific advisory board (SAB) in 2015 to stimulate conversation about broccoli and its potent antioxidant glucoraphanin. Our SAB members are internationally-recognized health care practitioners, researchers, subject matter experts and game changers who believe in the health benefits of broccoli and the phytonutrient glucoraphanin.
Meet Cheryl K. Burdette, N.D.
Cheryl Burdette received her Doctor of Naturopathy degree from Bastyr University in 2001 and completed her residency at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Dr. Burdette is currently in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia at Progressive Medical Center, one of the largest Integrative Medicine clinics in the Southeast. At Progressive Medical Center, she is the director of a naturopathic residency program with a focus on nutritional biochemistry. She serves on an institutional review board (IRB) and reviews studies related to complementary and alternative therapies.
Dr. Burdette is one of the authors of the book, “Laboratory Evaluations in Molecular Medicine” and has been published in many journals, including Alternative Medicine Review and Clinical Chemistry. She is a sought after speaker and is invited to present at Grand Rounds at all of the Naturopathic medical schools, as well as educational events for M.D.s, D.O.s and other allied healthcare practitioners. Dr. Burdette has been a member of the board of advisors for an Inc. 500 supplement company since 2009. She serves as a faculty member at University Bridgeport. She also teaches at the University of Miami – the first medical program to include integrative medicine in the core curriculum, and George Washington University – the first Masters program in integrative medicine. She is president and education director of Dunwoody Labs. At Dunwoody Labs, she is involved in clinical trials of various nutritional products, as well as development of functional testing profiles. Her marriage between clinical practice and laboratory oversight, gives her a unique perspective in evidence-based natural therapies, testing and research.
Meet Reid Eckert, C.N.C
A Certified Nutritional Counselor for the past 25 years, Reid Eckert is devoted to bringing nutrition education and quality of life to those with health challenges from birth to elder care. Educated at Bastyr University, Reid has extensive knowledge of how vitamins, minerals, herbs and food supplements address the systems of the body. He consults with medical professionals on behalf of his clients, helping to clarify options available to each individual in need. Reid has formulated supplements for various nutritional companies and doctors under private label. His areas of expertise include anti-aging, weight loss, sports nutrition and general health and wellness.
Reid has been a talk show host on The Natural Grocer and Brain Storm. He partnered with Dr. Joseph Purita to form Stem Longevity Research, which provides expertise in the medical applications of stem cells and specializes in consultations with formulations, manufacturing, education and use of nutraceuticals.
Meet Tori Schmitt, MS, RDN, LD
Tori Schmitt, RDN is the founder of YES! Nutrition, LLC and provides medical nutrition therapy, weight management coaching, sports nutrition coaching, meal planning, and nutrition education to clients of all ages and stages. Her nutrition philosophy is simple: be positive. Enjoy the foods you love in a simple, balanced, and realistic approach to see your health improve. Schmitt is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Dietitians in Business and Communications Dietetic Practice Group, and a member of the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group.
Schmitt graduated with her Masters in Clinical Nutrition and her Bachelors in Dietetics from The Ohio State University and trained at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Meet Ashley Koff, RD
Registered dietitian Ashley Koff believes better nutrition is simple, but isn’t always explained that way. To help everyone achieve better nutrition, simplified, Koff created “The Qualitarian Nutrition Plan” and “The AKA (Ashley Koff Approved) Healthy Grocery List Planner” to help consumers decide on better quality groceries, dietary supplements and prepared food. A self-described “Qualitarian,” Koff emphasizes the value of quality nutrition choices in achieving optimal health and is widely sought after for her knowledge and ability to translate nutrition science into practical and motivating messages. Recently recognized by Sharecare.com as one of the Top 10 Social Health Makers in Nutrition, Koff has also been recognized by the natural foods industry’s New Hope 360 as one of the leading “50 Natural Influencers” in health and nutrition to follow on Twitter. Koff was named among the “Top 10 Registered Dietitians in the U.S.” by Today’s Dietitian Magazine and won the Best of LA’s “Nutritionist/Dietitians” by CitySearch, three years running.
Educated at Duke and New York Universities and trained at LA+USC and Columbus Children’s hospitals, Koff completed coursework for Certified Clinical Nutritionist (CCN) and now continues her education with online integrative medicine modules and conferences.
